Is it obvious that I’m dreaming of being on vacation with this post? I think the HomeAway post made me want to go to the beach ASAP.

I’m loving the two beach cover-ups in this post — both from Target and the pineapple one is on sale!

The 31 bits bracelet is SO cute and would be great with a bright maxi dress — as would the Rebecca Minkoff clutch.

Hope this post brought some color to your day — I’m going to be dreaming of palm trees and the sound of waves crashing tonight!

Have a great day!

Today’s Wish List just has some fun items on it!

The Sisters of Los Angeles glasses are from Forever 21 and would be such a great gift — they have four or five other cities, too! I’m also loving the whale box and cactus candlestick. Just two really fun, whimsical items that add some personality to the home. I really think I may get the candlesticks for my office — with some hot pink tapered candles maybe? YES!

In my mind, the quartz, bar cart, gold frame and floor lamp are all pieces that you could have forever. I love that rocks are ‘in’ right now — makes me feel less nerdy after YEARS of collecting them in high school… ha ha!

The hashtag ice trays make me excited to have a party and the shoes and necklace are both awesome — when I was traveling last week, I saw a ton of women wearing Chanel espadrilles similar to the Payless ones. They were beautiful, but I looked up the cost — almost $1,000!!! Crazy. The super cute Payless version is $30… I know which way I’m going!

Lastly…the fig tree. I can’t wait to add one of these to the office – just have a long way to go to get organized! Some greenery will be the cherry on top!

Happy shopping & have a great day!

Wish List Wednesday: Valentine’s Day Gifts for your man or woman [DIY, inexpensive & thoughtful]

VDay - Signif other.jpg

Happy Wednesday!

This week is going fast since the office was closed and this weekend is the NBA All-Star Break…and I am NOT complaining about it!

Today’s post is for those of us who aren’t so into Valentine’s Day, but still would love to do something thoughtful for our significant other. This Wednesday post is a little non-traditional as in there aren’t links for every idea. Hope this helps you last-minute shoppers!

1 – 52 Reasons Why I Love You – I’ve seen this gift on Pinterest a ton and it’s super cute. It’s so cheap and easy and all the materials you need could be found at the drug store or even the Dollar Store. Just come up with 52 reasons, type or write them on a sheet of paper you can glue to the cards, use some binder rings to bind them and you’re done!

2 – Love Letter Board with Candy – This is another Pinterest favorite and there are a TON of versions on the website you can use. Or, you can get creative and write your own – just use one of the previous ones that uses the candy ‘terms’ for your love letter. Another one that can be sourced at the drug store or Dollar Store!

3 – A Cuddle Kit for 2 – I LOVE this one! Grab all the goodies – and extra candy or snacks you and your love enjoy during movie nights and enjoy a night in!

4 – Memory Balloons – When I was writing this post, I asked Jason what some of his favorite gifts that have been clearly homemade were his favorites and he mentioned this one. One year, I think when we had been together for five Valentine’s Days, I bought five balloons and attached a weight and card to each. Each card had the number of the year we’d been together and my favorite memory from that year. I also made him a chocolate cake [the best recipe!] with a heart made out of pink M&M’s on the top and dropped everything off at work. It was one of his favorites…even if he was a little embarrassed at the office!

5 – Swedish Fish Gift – This is one I may use this year as Jason LOVES Swedish Fish! This one is so easy and so cute and can be done for a ton of different candies. Again, Pinterest is your BFF on this one – search the favorite candy of your significant other and Valentine’s Day and you’ll have lots of ideas to choose from!

6 – Date Jar – Such a fun idea! Those this may take a LITTLE more time than some of the others, I love this idea. Each color popsicle stick determines the type of date –

7 – Coupon Book – Another classic DIY gift, there are a million templates online, but be creative and personalize some of them. If your guy or gal loves breakfast in bed, include that – or if there is a restaurant you hate but they love, promise to eat a meal there together. This one is easily personalized and can make a person feel so so special!

8 – Dessert surprise! – This wouldn’t be the best Valentine’s surprise for Jason because I try to do this from time to time normally, BUT make a special trip to get a treat that your significant other loves. For Jason, that’s Emeril’s banana cream pie. I’ve thought about trying to make it, but, I know my limits! If I’m downtown for a meeting during the day or something, I’ll stop by and pick a piece up to bring him at work. It’s always a welcomed gesture –and, since we don’t eat there more than a few times a year since it’s such an expensive night out, it’s a luxury surprise for sure!

9 – Basket of Favorites – The picture of the next gift idea is one I helped a co-worker put together for one of her staff members as a thank you. It’s so easy to make and personalize to really spoil the person on the receiving end. Collect candy, gift cards and other items, hot glue them to a dowel and find a great container to put them all in. Here’s an easy tutorial (I’ll admit, I didn’t use floral tape when I made mine) – it’s SUCH an easy gift to be as creative or simple as you wish!

10 – Book his or her favorite day! – Similar to the coupons and spoiling your significant other by promising to put on a smile and participate in their favorite outing, activity or heading to their favorite restaurant, this one is a way to really show you care. For us, usually this means me either tagging a long while Jason bowls, or, on the rare occasion, bowling with him. A lot of times, your loved one may not suggest their favorite activities or places because he/she knows it’s not on your list – surprise them by already having everything set! A simple, but sweet and thoughtful gesture.

11 – Cook his or her favorite meal – I feel like I am guilty of always deferring to this, but, homemade lobster ravioli is always a hit. If your significant other has a favorite meal at a restaurant that’s not TOO far outside of your comfort zone to make, gift it a shot. If you can, find a way to incorporate hearts – like the heart-shaped cookie cutter I used to make raviolis – or make a heart-shaped cake. Again, it’s the thought that counts with this one — well, if the house is still standing when you’re done in the kitchen!

I hope these ideas help if you’re looking for a last-minute idea that’s thoughtful, simple and doesn’t break the bank!

What are your Valentine’s Day plans?

Have a great day!

-Lindsey

Wish List Wednesday: Books!

Books.jpg

Sorry for the lack of post yesterday! I spent ‘blog time’ cleaning the downstairs for a little work video shoot we hosted at the house — I’m excited to share some behind-the-scenes photos once the video is out!

Today’s Wish List Wednesday is inspired by a recent acquisition I made: a library card! Ha ha! One of my co-workers, has mentioned that her mom works at one of the local libraries, so, since I LOVE to read, I decided to check out the one by our house. I’ve been buying a lot of books these last few years, so I figured this was a more cost-effective way of reading more!

Additionally, one of the reasons I wanted to post about my book wish list is to reflect back on some of the goals that came to mind when I was reading about people’s New Year’s resolutions. I’m not too into those, but I do think it’s important to hit the reset button sometimes and think about what adjustments you want to make in life. These books speak a little to that, so I’m looking forward to reading more!

Top row (L to R)

1-The Complete Book of Home Organization: 200+ Tips and Projects Paperback by Toni Hammersley

Who doesn’t need to be more organized?! I feel like I do a DECENT job of keeping things organized around here, but, sometimes, I feel like I’m too close to the projects and need new, fresh ideas and visuals to inspire myself to organize different spaces. Looking forward to checking this out — I have a closet outside that I’m DESPERATE to figure out!

2-National Geographic Guide to National Parks of the United States, 8th Edition

Ever since Africa, I feel like I’m constantly looking at places I want to go–the list is long! With that said, it seems like there is SO much focus on traveling abroad (which I totally understand), but there are so many incredible places to explore in the U.S., too! I’m excited to do some research and, depending on what we do for summer vacation, drag Jason to a few new places!

3-The Girl on the Train Hardcover by Paula Hawkins

I’m so far behind on this one — have heard amazing things and can’t wait to read it!

4-Raising Grateful Kids in an Entitled World: How One Family Learned That Saying No Can Lead to Life’s Biggest Yes by Kristen Welch

When I think about having kids, it’s rather terrifying to know that our actions will shape everything they do. While I want to give them the world — and maybe another planet or two whenever we decide to have kids — I also want them to be grateful and know it’s important to earn what you get, not expect it. This read got great reviews — we’ll call it baby homework, maybe?

5-Cupcakes and Cashmere at Home Hardcover by Emily Schuman

Cupcakes & Cashmere is one of my favorite blogs. The recipes, the design and fashion insight — Emily Schuman’s taste is impeccable. I have her first book and can’t wait to check out the second!

Bottom row (L to R)

1-Lovable Livable Home: How to Add Beauty, Get Organized, and Make Your House Work for You Hardcover by Sherry Petersik & John Petersik

YoungHouseLove.com is one of my most favorite blogs and I miss its daily content! This is another ‘I have the first book’ situation and I’m excited to enjoy being inspired by another fun collection of projects from YHL!

2-Wildflower by Drew Barrymore

I can remember when Drew Barrymore released her book and was on the Ellen Show–I definitely thought it’d be a fun read. She took all the photos, too, which is so fun! Photography books are so interesting as you see the world through another’s eyes!

3-Humans of New York: Stories Hardcover by Brandon Stanton

Collections of stories about New Yorkers — how fun! The most inspiring, interesting city in the world has tons of great characters. I love following the Facebook page, too! So fun!

4-Resurrection Science: Conservation, De-Extinction and the Precarious Future of Wild Things by M. R. O’Connor

My obsession with animals continues to grow and, after listening to a presentation about the conservation of wild dogs, this book peaks my interest. I used to volunteer quite a bit and it’s on my list this year to try and get involved SOMEHOW with animals whether it’s at an animal shelter (we might have 3 dogs, if I do that) or working with a group forcused on conservation.

5-Elements of Style: Designing a Home & a Life Hardcover by Erin Gates

Similar to my interests and inspiration, I feel like my taste in design changes constantly. I love things to be clean and organized, but I also like eclectic pieces and decor items that have a story to them. I’d like to focus and do a better job looking at the bigger picture instead of individual items – I’m hoping this book will help!

Hope you enjoyed this post — what books are on your list?

Have a great day!

Wish List Wednesday: Valentine’s Day Gifts for your Best Gal Pal

Vday - Bestie Pics.jpg

1 I 234567891011121314151617

Even though Valentine’s Day has become QUITE the spectacle, it’s still fun to pick out sweet gifts for the special people in your life and today’s post is all about Valentine’s gifts for your bestie — and they’re all under $25!

This list has something for everyone and, once I started picking out what I thought would be fun gifts, I just kept going!

You can never go wrong with candy – and how fun is the gummy sushi (8) and the ‘Perfect Man’? (3) Ha ha! I had to include Gertrude Hawk candy — peanut butter smidgens (11) make Jason the happiest man in the world! Champs aka Bubbles (17) is something with which you can NEVER go wrong and the Pier 1 flutes (16) are so pretty with their gold stems.

Bando had some great gifts – the tumblers (1) are great and would be awesome for a girlfriend to keep at work or at her nightstand. The notebooks (7) are too cute, too!

I found a slew of fun accessories, too, like the heart sunglasses (2) from Urban Outfitters, the headphones (4) from H&M (SO cute!) and the earrings (9-on sale!) from Anthropologie. Another great sale item are those PJs from Target (5) – $13!

Rounding out my favorite gift selections was the notebook (10) from Gigi New York that says, “My tastes are simple…I’m easily satisfied with the best.” LOVE it! The fleece blanket (15) from Target is so fun and a steal at under $10. Lastly, Lush products — just can’t get enough of them! I included a pink bath bomb (14), a unicorn horn bubble bath bar (12) and a really fun lip scrub (13).

Personally, I JUST took down the last of our holiday decor items (I had a few that were hung up high that I was just too lazy to drag the letter in to take down until the weekend) and some of our outdoor decor is still up… I know, I know…SO embarrassing! It’s been chilly so I just haven’t taken the ladder outside yet and that is why Valentine’s Day isn’t really on the radar just yet.

I hope this list inspires you as it has inspired me to start brainstorming ideas for my man — and anyone in my life I feel like spoiling a little bit!

Have a great day and thanks for reading!
